When you are away from your country, definitely miss the mother land however you are enjoying the current lifestyle at oversea. As a typical Burmese woman myself, I do really love Moh Hin Gar which is also our traditional dish, a national remark as well.
I woke up this morning with a sweet dream of moh hin gar festival, I thought I seen a food stall with all burmese food like free feel to eat. I couldn’t help myself to have those things when I wake up. So decided to cook Moh Hin Gar.
Bought three big cat fishes and lemon grass 7 sticks. Normally 1 big fish is enough for 5 persons. I bought more as wanted to keep freeze for another time. Here we go, clean fish and two lemongrass, then boil with the water, added some amount of fish sauce as well.
This part is quite different method from one family to another. In Myanmar, we can buy the ready made pack. I have a package which my mother sent to me a few week ago. The powder include roasted rice powder, chick pea powder and a little bit of wheat plus some crash pepper. If you can’t buy the packet, you can punch them as well. Put the powder in the normal temperature water and mix well. I used with my hand to feel the thickness.
Ok, now put a bit oil in the pan, then ginger and lemongrass, stir fry for 3 min. Then add fried garlic and onion. If you don’t have fried garlic/onion, you can stir fry together these four ingredients. Then add some chili powder for color, and add the mashed fish meat. Then mix and fried for 5 to 7 minutes until you see the golden brown fish paste.
Do you remember the fish stock we cook earlier? Now add the fish paste first, boil the soup until enough boil, then add the powder mixture. Keep boiling for 10 to 15 min. You can add salt according to your taste. And some egg or fish cake if you wish.
Here is the noodle to have together with Moh Hin Gar Soup. Enjoy your soup.
Oh la la …….. I just finish a soup bowl.
